At the Asia-Pacific premiere of "Avatar: Fire and Ash" held in Wellington, New Zealand on 12/12, rapper Rhymastic had the opportunity to meet and converse with director James Cameron. During their exchange, Rhymastic presented the filmmaker with a rap about the Ash (Mangkwan) tribe from the third installment.
He composed the rap after an early screening of the film in early December, completing it before traveling to New Zealand for the event. The song's content revolves around conflict, destruction, and the characters' journey of resurgence from the ashes. Through this, Rhymastic demonstrated his unique approach to the cinematic world of Avatar. Director James Cameron expressed surprise at Rhymastic's performance, commending his idea and requesting to keep the work as a souvenir.
Rhymastic stated he was impressed by the 3D visual effects technology, the film's immersive world, and its message about family. In the movie, fire serves as a symbol of conflict and destruction, yet also opens possibilities for rebirth. Cameron had considered expanding storylines around the influence of Eywa – the Na'vi deity – on Pandora's inhabitants, including the character Varang, played by Oona Chaplin.
"Avatar: Fire and Ash" is set after the events of the second installment, "The Way of Water", introducing many new characters and tribes on the planet Pandora, alongside familiar faces like Jake Sully and Neytiri. The story broadens the conflict between humans and the Na'vi, as well as disputes among various tribes, setting Pandora amidst significant upheaval.
On 2/12, the film received widespread praise at its press screening in Los Angeles, USA. According to Variety, many critics described the movie as offering a large-scale cinematic experience, effectively combining stunning visuals with strong story development. The project was nominated for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category at the Golden Globe 2026 awards, announced on 8/12, 11 days before its release.
Released in 2009, "Avatar" surpassed "Titanic" to become the highest-grossing film and ushered in a 3D technology revolution, earning over 5,2 billion USD. Over the past 13 years, James Cameron has focused on technology research and script preparation for the sequels. "The Way of Water" and "Fire and Ash", co-written by Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, were originally planned as one story but were later divided into two parts. The future of the brand depends on the box office performance of the third film, while Cameron has already planned 5 films, with the 4th installment scheduled for release on 21/12/2029 and the 5th on 19/12/2031.
Rhymastic, 34 years old, whose real name is Vu Duc Thien, graduated from Hanoi University of Architecture.
