For people with diabetes, monitoring blood glucose levels with continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), like the 3P CGM, is becoming increasingly common, replacing traditional finger-prick tests, according to a representative from manufacturer FPT. The device is painless and less disruptive.
"However, many people are concerned about ensuring the accuracy and clarity of the displayed data, as well as having a system to alert them to discrepancies. The new update launched in early August is a step in that direction," the representative said.

The device may occasionally record values that don't accurately reflect the patient's actual condition. These discrepancies could be due to improper handling, physical impact, bleeding at the sensor site, or unusual physiological responses. Examples include rapid increases or decreases in blood glucose or reversals between consecutive readings.
To address this, the system automatically detects unstable data segments, displays an alert with a brief explanation, and temporarily hides that segment from the graph. Users simply confirm the alert to continue monitoring.
This feature prevents confusion for those newly diagnosed with diabetes or gestational diabetes when they see interruptions in the graph, while also ensuring the accuracy of the overall report.
"When the device stabilizes, the system resumes recording data. The graph will have a small gap where the alert occurred, accurately reflecting the period when data wasn't recorded to protect overall accuracy," the FPT representative explained.
After using the 3.4 update of the FPT MediCare app for several weeks, My Hoa from Tan My ward, TP HCM, said she initially thought the device was malfunctioning when she saw the interrupted graph. However, she later understood it was the system's way of protecting her from inaccurate readings.

In addition to the abnormal data alerts, FPT has also upgraded the format of the ambulatory glucose profile (AGP) report. This analytical tool helps doctors assess a patient's long-term blood glucose control.
The new report is designed for clarity and ease of use for both general users and medical professionals. It includes the percentage of time blood glucose levels fall within very low, low, normal, high, and very high ranges. It also provides five key indicators: device usage time, average blood glucose level, glucose variability, and a control indicator.
The in-depth analysis section further breaks down hypoglycemic patterns by day, night, frequency, duration, and severity. Each day's data is also linked to activities like eating, exercising, and taking medication. This allows users, especially those newly diagnosed, long-term patients with unstable conditions, and those with gestational diabetes, to easily compare their lifestyle habits with their blood glucose data.
This report allows patients to both see their indicators and understand the reasons behind fluctuations, enabling them to work with their doctors to adjust their treatment plans.

The FPT representative stated these new improvements aim to make blood glucose monitoring more convenient for users, while also helping them understand their data. This enables them to take appropriate action and collaborate effectively with their doctors.
"We want the data to be more than just numbers; we want it to be the voice of the body. The FPT application can help users understand that voice and suggest improvements, rather than just measuring and doing nothing," the representative added.
