Around 50 individuals in Cam Ranh have been hospitalized with symptoms consistent with food poisoning after consuming chicken rice at a local restaurant. The patients, who reported abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, sought emergency medical attention after eating at an establishment on To Huu street, Cam Ranh ward.
Cam Ranh Regional General Hospital confirmed on 5/7 that patients suspected of food poisoning on 2/7 and 3/7 shared a common factor: they all ate at the chicken rice restaurant on To Huu street, Cam Ranh ward, before developing symptoms. A representative from the hospital stated, "Most symptoms are mild, patients' health has stabilized, and they are expected to be discharged tomorrow afternoon."
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Lu Ngoc Trung, Chairman of Cam Ranh Ward People's Committee, stated that local authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to collect food samples from the chicken rice restaurant for testing to determine the cause. The chicken rice restaurant has temporarily ceased operations pending the investigation. Additionally, a ward delegation visited the hospital to check on and offer support to the patients.
This incident follows several food poisoning cases in Khanh Hoa province in 2024, which led to hundreds of hospitalizations. The most significant case involved 369 people who fell ill after eating at the Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant in Nha Trang, attributed to bacterial infections including salmonella, bacillus cereus, and staphylococcus aureus.
