The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on 14/8. Two electricians, residents of Gio Linh commune and Hoan Lao commune, were working about 30 meters from Quang Binh Friendship Hospital. While erecting an iron pole near a power line, an electrical short circuit caused a flash, electrocuting both men and rendering them unconscious.
Upon receiving the news, the hospital activated a code red, dispatching a medical team with equipment to the scene. They provided immediate care and transported the victims to the hospital.
Doctor Tran Van Son, head of the emergency unit, stated that medical personnel arrived at the scene within minutes of the incident. Both men were unconscious with electrical burns. The 51-year-old was in more serious condition, exhibiting signs of cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Medical professionals immediately began CPR at the scene. Dashcam footage from a nearby parked car shows a medical staff member performing chest compressions and rescue breaths while transporting the patient to the emergency room.
In the emergency room, doctors continued advanced cardiac life support, including defibrillation, assisted ventilation with a bag valve mask, administering vasopressors, and collaborating with multiple specialties to address the burn injuries.
After about 15 minutes, the patient's pulse and blood pressure returned. Both men were transferred to Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital for further monitoring and specialized treatment.
"The patient's condition was critical upon arrival. Fortunately, the incident occurred near the hospital, minimizing the time between the accident and medical intervention. This quick response increased the effectiveness of the treatment and reduced the risk of complications," said Dr. Son.
