An MRI at a German hospital revealed that Trang suffered from endometriosis in her uterus and both ovaries, reducing her chances of natural conception. Doctors recommended IVF, but the complex procedures and long waiting times prolonged the treatment. After two unsuccessful IVF attempts over three years, Trang decided to return to Vietnam to focus on her infertility treatment.
Last year, the couple visited the Fertility Center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi. Professor Doctor Le Hoang, the center's director, explained that endometriosis, a common cause of painful periods, can lead to infertility by causing inflammation and adhesions that prevent sperm from reaching the egg.
Endometriosis occurs when uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus, potentially affecting the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines, and peritoneum. In Trang's case, the uterine lining grew within the uterine muscle and both ovaries, causing symptoms like prolonged periods, severe menstrual pain, and reduced fertility.
Professor Hoang prescribed medication to treat Trang's endometriosis and related symptoms. After one month, she underwent ovarian stimulation, followed by egg retrieval and fertilization with her husband's sperm. The embryos were cultured in a timelapse incubator with AI-powered quality assessment software, resulting in two good-quality day-5 embryos and one day-6 embryo.
Instead of immediate embryo transfer, Trang received hormone therapy to stabilize the endometriosis and prevent it from affecting embryo implantation and development. Once the endometrial lesions had significantly shrunk and her uterus was ready, doctors prepared the lining to create an optimal environment for implantation.
Doctor Phan Ngoc Quy transferred one day-5 embryo into Trang’s uterus, resulting in a successful pregnancy. Last month, she gave birth to a 2.8 kg baby girl via cesarean section. "Returning to Vietnam for infertility treatment was our best decision," Trang said, adding that the entire process, from examinations and tests to hospitalization and treatment, took only one year and was more affordable than in Germany.

According to Doctor Quy, endometriosis is a common gynecological condition affecting about 10% of women of reproductive age. However, due to its atypical symptoms, many women go undiagnosed for years. Common signs include severe menstrual cramps, pain during intercourse, and digestive issues like diarrhea, constipation, bloating, or nausea, especially during menstruation. Doctors recommend early consultation for women with suspected symptoms to improve their chances of conception, enhance treatment effectiveness, and reduce costs.
At the Tam Anh IVF Center in Hanoi, thanks to advanced technology in diagnosis, embryo culture, and personalized embryo transfer, the average pregnancy rate after embryo transfer is 78.7%. This rate reaches 84.3% for women aged 28-35 and nearly 85% for those under 28.
