On 21/8, a representative from the Children's Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City reported that the 5-year-old boy sustained second- and third-degree burns across 70-75% of his body, including his head, face, neck, torso, genitals, and limbs. He also suffered burns to his respiratory tract and developed sepsis.
After five days of treatment, the boy remains in a state of hypovolemic shock. His entire body is swollen and stiff, his fingers and toes are blackened, and his pulse is weak. He is on a ventilator and receiving continuous fluid resuscitation.

His 13-year-old sister also suffered burns to approximately 50% of her body, with severe swelling and exposed conjunctiva. She also shows signs of wound infection. Although conscious and responsive, she faces the risk of septic shock. Soot found in her airway indicates the severity of the damage.
Doctors are employing various treatments to save the children's lives. However, their recovery is expected to be challenging due to the extent of their burns and the potential for complications.
According to the hospital, on the morning of 17/8, the children’s father, who is divorced from their mother and does not live with them, allegedly poured gasoline on the two children, their mother, and the first floor of their rented room in Duc Hoa, Tay Ninh, before setting it on fire. The blaze quickly engulfed the room, severely injuring the family. Authorities are investigating the incident.
