A 38-year-old man, the main provider for his family and father of three young children, sustained severe injuries in a traffic accident during a delivery trip. He was rushed to Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital. A medical panel diagnosed brain death three times.
His father was also receiving treatment at the hospital's Hemodialysis Unit. Faced with this tragedy, the family made the compassionate decision to donate his tissues and organs, hoping to save the lives of many other patients.
On 11/5, Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital activated the organ retrieval and transplantation process. This complex operation involved approximately 100 doctors, technicians, and medical staff from the Provincial General Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.
The donated organs included: one heart, two kidneys, two livers, and two corneas. The heart and some organs were transported to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital for transplantation, while the remaining organs were sent to Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. The two kidneys were transplanted directly at Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital.
Before the ventilator was removed, the wife silently entered the room to say her final goodbye. Her trembling hand gently touched her husband's face for the last time. Afterward, the medical team removed the ventilator and stood in silence for one minute as a tribute. "My child did many good deeds throughout his life, and even in death, he can still save many people", said the donor's mother.

Organ transplantation is one of humanity's most significant medical achievements since the 20th century. It is the last resort for treating patients with chronic, life-threatening conditions caused by irreversible tissue and organ failure, such as chronic kidney failure, liver disease, heart disease, bone marrow disorders, and corneal damage.
The first organ transplant from a brain-dead donor in Vietnam was performed in 5/2010. To date, over 9,500 successful organ transplants have been performed, with kidney and liver transplants being the most common.
