On 23/9, Dr. Tran Minh Tri, Deputy Head of Neurosurgery at Cho Ray Hospital, reported that the patient was transferred from a hospital in Can Giuoc with a gunshot wound that penetrated her neck. Imaging diagnostics revealed a complete fracture of the C4 vertebra, with bullet fragments remaining in her right shoulder.
"The bullet's trajectory caused a complete vertebral fracture, resulting in spinal cord injury and complete paralysis of all four limbs. The patient has lost sensation from the shoulders down, and her prognosis is very uncertain due to the severity of her condition," Dr. Tri said.
The patient's 40-year-old daughter is also being treated at the hospital's Craniocerebral Trauma Department. Dr. Duong Quang Minh reported that the daughter is conscious and that CT scans of her cervical spine and brain are normal, showing no intracranial bleeding. She has swelling in her neck and a wound on her eyebrow. She is being monitored and treated with antibiotics, pain medication, and intravenous fluids, and is expected to be discharged soon.

The mother and daughter were injured when a 53-year-old suspect, Duc, shot them in Can Giuoc commune, Tay Ninh province, on 22/9. Duc had been living with the daughter as her partner, but recently experienced relationship conflicts due to jealousy. After hearing gunshots, neighbors rushed to the scene and found the two victims lying in a pool of blood. They were then taken to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for emergency treatment. The suspect barricaded himself inside the house and died by suicide.
