26 arrested in 600 kg cannabis bust

Nguyen Phi Co, 30, and 25 others have been arrested and charged in connection with a cannabis trafficking operation involving 600 kg of the drug.

Police in Quang Ninh province announced on 22/6 the arrests, stating that Co and his accomplices used online platforms to coordinate the purchase and sale of large quantities of cannabis. Authorities seized 146 kg of cannabis, 7.5 billion VND, two cars, and other items.

The drugs were concealed in everyday objects, packaged as parcels, and shipped via courier services or air freight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and other provinces. Co's group sourced the cannabis from the border regions of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, smuggling it into Vietnam by land and air.

Quang Ninh police also recently dismantled a separate drug trafficking ring led by Dinh Thi Ha, 47, and her husband Trinh Minh San, 52.

The couple confessed to hiring Thao Minh Xa, 48, to transport drugs from Kon Tum to Quang Ninh for 20 million VND. Xa, who concealed two kg of drugs in a backpack and traveled by bus, was apprehended upon delivery to Ha and San. A subsequent search of Xa's residence yielded an additional kilogram of drugs.
