On 21/8, Quan, 34, had his appeal rejected by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court, upholding his 6-month sentence for humiliation and another 6-month sentence for public disorder. The combined sentence resulted in one year in prison.

The initial judgment confirmed that Quan and Chau had mutually agreed to divorce early last year. Quan became jealous and angry after seeing photos of Chau with colleagues on the Facebook page of the restaurant where she worked. On 15/2/2024, using his Facebook and Zalo accounts, Quan sent seven explicit videos and images of himself and his ex-wife (recorded while they were married) to the restaurant's fan page, the manager, and several employees.
Frightened, Chau arranged to meet Quan at a cafe (in former District 10). She asked him to leave her alone so she could work and support their child, but Quan objected to her continued employment at the restaurant. He then grabbed her handbag, smashed a perfume bottle on the ground, and slapped her.
Quan was restrained by bystanders and taken to the police. In June, the People's Court of former District 10 initially sentenced him to one year in prison for humiliation and public disorder. He appealed for a reduced sentence.
In court today, Quan admitted to his actions, explaining that jealousy drove him to post the explicit content to get revenge on his ex-wife, intending to shame and cause her to lose her job. He expressed remorse, asking for forgiveness and a lighter sentence.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court stated that Quan's actions seriously violated his ex-wife’s dignity and caused public disorder. The initial sentence was deemed appropriate and consistent with the nature of the case. As the defendant presented no new mitigating circumstances during the appeal, the court found no basis to accept his appeal.
