Four days earlier, Tin was driving a bus with 25 passengers on the expressway, traveling from Ho Chi Minh City towards Trung Luong. As the bus reached the expressway ramp in hamlet 1, Long Hung commune, it collided with a truck moving in the same direction, resulting in a broken right rearview mirror.
Following the collision, the truck fled the scene. Tin immediately pursued it at high speed for a significant distance, driving erratically and not keeping to his lane. He failed to maintain a safe distance, did not wear a seatbelt, and repeatedly swerved, changed lanes, and made U-turns at the junction where the expressway ramp meets provincial road 878.
Passengers on board became increasingly distressed, screaming, pleading, and even threatening to call the bus company's hotline and the police. However, the driver remained defiant.

After driving several more kilometers, Tin finally stopped the bus. Many passengers immediately exited the vehicle in the middle of the road, contacting relatives for pickup.
Passengers on the bus recorded the entire incident on video and uploaded it to social media, leading to the driver's suspension from the bus company.
