Hoang Thi Kim Chau, 52, former Deputy General Director of Bach Dat An Joint Stock Company, was sentenced to life imprisonment for embezzlement of property and 20 years in prison for abusing trust to appropriate property by the Da Nang People's Court on January 12. The combined sentence is life imprisonment.
The investigating agency determined that from July 2017 to August 2023, Chau, while serving as General Director and later Deputy General Director, directly managed the company's cash. She exploited her position, repeatedly withdrawing company funds as personal advances, which she never repaid. She embezzled over 774 billion VND, with over 364.8 billion VND taken in late 2017 and over 409 billion VND between 2018 and August 2023.
Chau used these funds to invest in and purchase tens of apartments, many land lots, and commercial properties in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Some assets were registered under other individuals' names.
The Court found her actions to be a prolonged criminal offense involving a particularly large sum of money, causing serious damage to the company and affecting economic management order. Despite Chau's denial, accounting evidence and financial transactions were sufficient to convict her. The Court ordered Chau to compensate the company for the entire embezzled amount, and related assets will continue to be processed to ensure enforcement of the judgment.
