According to the investigation, at 8:00 on 21/1, a 33-year-old nurse from the Emergency Department of Cam Le Regional Medical Center reported a significant theft. The previous evening, on 20/1, she was on duty and left her handbag in a staff locker, with the key still in the lock. The following morning, she noticed several lockers showed signs of being opened and ransacked. Upon checking her own handbag, she discovered all her valuables were missing.
The stolen assets included two 9999 gold taels, one two-chi gold ring, one five-chi gold ring (both 9999 gold), and one one-chi wedding ring. The total value of the stolen items exceeded 410 million VND.
The theft, occurring within a hospital and involving a substantial amount of valuables, caused concern among medical staff, healthcare workers, and patients alike.
By 22/1, police identified Nguyen Trong Sang as a suspect and summoned him for questioning. At the investigative agency, Sang confessed to having a prior conviction for theft, having been released from prison in 2024. He admitted to living a transient lifestyle and continuing to steal to cover his expenses.
At 23:30 on 20/1, Sang arrived in the Cam Le area, wandering around to find a vulnerable spot for theft. Around 0:30 on 21/1, Sang broke into the Emergency Department of Cam Le Regional Medical Center, opened various staff lockers, and searched Ms. Hoa's handbag.
On the morning of the same day, Sang sold the gold at jewelry shops for 360 million VND and transferred the money to his mother's account for use. Police have since recovered one gold ring and 360 million VND.
