On 11/3, Stacy Sharples was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison after admitting to fabricating allegations against 10 men she met on dating websites. She pleaded guilty to 10 counts of obstructing justice at Bolton Crown Court.
Presiding over the sentencing, Judge Nicholas Clarke stated that the victims were wrongly and unjustly labeled as rapists within their families, workplaces, communities, and on social media. "Their lives were ruined by these malicious lies," the judge emphasized.
Sharples received some leniency due to her lack of prior convictions, mental health issues, and an IQ of 69. However, the judge highlighted the profound harm she inflicted upon the victims and the negative impact her actions had on genuine victims seeking legal assistance.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the false allegations were made between 2013 and 2019. Most of the men were arrested and detained, with some subjected to intimate examinations.
Sharples sought victims on dating websites such as Plenty of Fish, Badoo, and Facebook Dating. After leaving their homes, she would typically call the police to report rape, even in cases where no sexual activity had occurred.
In 2013, Sharples visited the home of her first victim, Kaylum Davies, where other individuals were present. She spent most of her time on her phone and departed after one hour without speaking. Afterward, Sharples called her brother, claiming Kaylum and other men forced her into sexual acts and threatened her with a knife. Kaylum was arrested and released on bail for 18 months but was not charged due to inconsistencies in Sharples's testimony.
Another victim, James Blundell, was invited by Sharples to a motel for consensual sexual activity. After James left, Sharples asked motel staff to call the police, alleging rape. James was arrested and held for 17 hours before being released for a 6-month investigation.
In 2018, Astron Inman was arrested after Sharples told police he had violently raped her. In reality, the two had engaged in consensual sexual activity in Astron's car. Astron was detained for 8 hours but proved his innocence through Facebook messages.
Sharples repeatedly refused to cooperate with police investigations, including declining interviews or medical examinations. She even boasted to one of her victims that the police "won't prosecute me, I got away with it, again."
One victim stated that the false accusations led to depression and suicidal thoughts. Other victims reported losing their jobs and experiencing family breakdowns.
Court records indicate that Sharples's false allegations cost taxpayers an estimated 120,000 GBP due to wasted law enforcement and medical resources.
