Group arrested for chasing, smashing automobile over 'misunderstanding'

Nguyen Van Hieu, 29, arrested with seven accomplices for chasing, smashing an automobile, and assaulting several individuals due to misunderstanding over unpaid durian.

On 29/3, the Dong Thap Provincial Police Investigation Agency indicted and temporarily detained Nguyen Van Hieu, 29, along with Nguyen Trong Thuong, 27, from Lam Dong province, and Bui Vo Khoi, 19, from Dak Lak province, for three months. They are under investigation for public disturbance.

The five remaining suspects, being under 18 years old, have been prohibited from leaving their place of residence.

The incident began on the evening of 20/3, when Nguyen Tan Hien, 51, from Dak Lak, and four companions went to purchase durian at a warehouse in Binh Thanh hamlet, Ngu Hiep commune.

Around 2:30 AM the following day, negotiations between Hien's group and Hieu's group, who were workers at the warehouse, escalated into an argument and a physical altercation. Hien and his friends then got into their automobile and departed.

At this point, Hieu and his group of youth and juveniles mistakenly believed that Hien's group had not paid for the durian, prompting them to pursue the automobile for several kilometers.

When bystanders intervened, both parties conversed and realized the entire incident was due to a misunderstanding. Subsequently, the injured individuals were taken to the hospital.

The investigating agency is continuing to clarify other actions of those involved.
