Inmate escapes after just over two weeks in prison

Huynh Van Doi, 42, fled Phuoc Hoa prison in Tan Phuoc 2 commune after serving just over two weeks of his sentence, taking advantage of a work detail.

Huynh Van Doi, 42, escaped from Phuoc Hoa prison in Tan Phuoc 2 commune yesterday, 10/1, during a work detail. Police in Dong Thap are actively searching for him, deploying forces and K9 dogs.

Doi, originally from Long Hung commune, Dong Thap, was sentenced to one year in prison for property theft by the People's Court of Area 10, Ho Chi Minh City, in September last year (2025).

He was transferred from a temporary detention center in Ho Chi Minh City to Phuoc Hoa prison, under Department C10, Ministry of Public Security, on 24/12/2025. His escape occurred around 2 PM yesterday, 10/1, when he exploited a lapse in security during his work assignment.

Dong Thap police have issued a public warning, urging residents in the area not to approach Doi if sighted. Instead, they should immediately report his whereabouts to the nearest police agency for timely assistance and handling.
