Two nights prior, a dispute between vendors escalated when Thanh chased and attacked an 18-year-old employee of a beverage stall on Bach Dang pedestrian street in Thu Dau Mot ward with a machete. Bystanders intervened and disarmed Thanh.
The incident caused panic among tourists strolling on the pedestrian street. Authorities deemed the act a potential criminal offense and a threat to public order, leading to Thanh's detainment for further investigation.
