On 20/8, Pham Van Dung, a resident of Xuan An commune, was temporarily detained by Gia Lai Provincial Police. He faces charges of illegal use of military weapons, with additional charges of intentional infliction of injury and resisting public officials currently being prepared.
The investigation revealed that Dung harbored resentment towards his 62-year-old father-in-law, Mr. Thanh. Dung suspected Mr. Thanh had influenced his daughter to divorce him. On the afternoon of 11/8, Dung attacked Mr. Thanh with a knife, repeatedly slashing him and causing injuries to his shoulder.
Residents promptly intervened to disarm Dung and rushed Mr. Thanh to Gia Lai Provincial Central General Hospital for emergency treatment.
After the initial attack, Dung returned home, retrieved two more knives, and tucked them into his waistband. He then continued to search for and threaten Mr. Thanh's family members, escalating the disturbance and causing public disorder.
When Xuan An Commune Police and other law enforcement officials arrived at his home to summon him for questioning, Dung refused to comply. He cursed, pulled out a knife to threaten them, and threw bricks and stones at the officers attempting to carry out their duties.
Later that evening, officers successfully subdued Dung and disarmed him.
