Man kills mother-in-law, flees to Cambodia, and surrenders

Nguyen Van Tai, after arguing with his mother-in-law, stabbed her with scissors, fled to Cambodia, and surrendered to authorities several hours later.

On 13/7, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Thanh Trung, head of the My Quy Tay border patrol station, reported that Tai, 27, from Can Tho, was handed over to the Tay Ninh provincial police department for investigation on murder charges.

Tai lived with his wife's family in Thanh An hamlet, Chau Thanh commune. This morning, after an argument with his mother-in-law, he stabbed her with scissors. She collapsed and later died despite being taken to the hospital. Tai fled the scene on a motorbike.

The My Quy Tay border patrol station received information from the Tay Ninh provincial police investigation agency. Suspecting Tai might have fled to Cambodia, they coordinated with the Som Rong International Border Gate police station in Cambodia. They located Tai at a guesthouse in Som Rong commune, Chan Tria district, Svay Rieng province.

By early afternoon, investigators, along with Cambodian armed forces, persuaded Tai to surrender at the My Quy Tay border patrol station. He confessed to the crime.
