On 7/8, Huy appeared before the People's Court of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, facing charges of intentional injury.
During the trial, the victim, Mr. Chinh, 58, a security guard, stated that he had submitted a request to withdraw the charges against Tuong Chi Huy. He explained that before the trial, the defendant's family and lawyer visited his home to apologize and offer 100 million VND in compensation, covering medical expenses, emotional distress, damage to reputation, and health. "I signed the withdrawal form completely voluntarily and was not coerced", Mr. Chinh said.

The defendant, Tuong Chi Huy, expressed remorse, attributing his actions to anger and a lack of restraint. He acknowledged that his actions not only injured the victim but also resulted in him losing his job.
After deliberation, the judges announced the decision to dismiss the case against Huy.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on 27/2. Huy was walking with his 32-year-old American girlfriend near tree number 16T on Nguyen Hue walking street when her dog jumped down and ran around. Mr. Chinh, a 58-year-old security guard, approached them to remind them about the no-dogs policy and used a plastic stick to shoo the dog away.
An argument ensued between Huy and his girlfriend and the security guard. After the guard poked the woman in the stomach with the stick, she kicked him in the leg.
Huy then shoved Mr. Chinh and punched him several times in the head and face. Mr. Chinh ran towards Ton Duc Thang street, but Huy pursued and continued the assault. Mr. Chinh grabbed a metal rod from a nearby planter "to scare him off".
During the struggle, Huy seized the rod and struck Mr. Chinh on the head, causing him to bleed and lose consciousness.
The Management Center of Walking Streets and Parks in District 1, along with bystanders, provided first aid and took Mr. Chinh to the hospital. A medical assessment determined that Mr. Chinh sustained injuries amounting to 4% bodily harm. The victim initially filed a criminal complaint against Huy.
