An Giang Provincial Police announced on 14/10 the indictment and temporary detention of 10 suspects, the temporary holding of one person, and travel bans for 12 others involved in a scheme. This operation created fake hotels and resorts in Phu Quoc to defraud people of room deposits.
According to Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong, Deputy Director of An Giang Provincial Police, from April 2026, police detected an organized group operating multiple websites and social media pages named after 5-star hotels and resorts in Phu Quoc.
The group ran advertisements and purchased fake interactions to establish credibility. They targeted individuals seeking to book rooms, then requested deposit transfers. After receiving funds, the accounts blocked communication or disappeared.
On 10/7, the special task force made the initial arrests of four individuals. As the investigation expanded, 10 suspects have now been temporarily detained, one person is being held, and 12 others face temporary travel bans.

Investigators reviewed 229 related bank accounts, recording total transactions exceeding 6,000 billion VND. Among 60 identified victims, 17 transferred billions of VND in total to accounts under the name KOKOSA Company.
Police stated that the suspects also established shell companies that conducted no actual business. They opened corporate accounts to build trust, leading customers to believe they were transacting with legitimate businesses.
Beyond hotel bookings, the group is also accused of employing other schemes, including collecting tuition fees, selling insurance, and running "junior pilot" programs. The investigative police agency has initiated three additional related cases for further clarification.
An Giang Provincial Police are expanding the investigation to determine the roles of those involved.
