The incident occurred in the early morning of 12/10. Cuong allegedly used a crowbar to pry open the door and entered his aunt's house in Cho Vam commune. Discovering her asleep, he pinned her down, threatening to kill her if she cried for help.

Cuong then took two gold bracelets and a gold necklace. He proceeded to tie her hands, stuff a cloth into her mouth, and cover her face with a pillow. He searched her wardrobe, taking 11 gold rings, another gold necklace, 12 simen bracelets, a bracelet, a pair of earrings, silver jewelry, and over 13 million VND in cash.
