Police lieutenant dies while pursuing attacker

Lieutenant Nguyen Dong Canh was fatally stabbed while searching for Nguyen Van Ty, a suspect who had injured his sister-in-law and fled into a forest.

On the morning of 8/9, a task force, including Lieutenant Nguyen Dong Canh and several officers from the Xuan Loc Commune Police, began searching for Ty, 30. Ty was suspected of injuring his 36-year-old sister-in-law, with whom he lived, the previous evening.

Around 10:30 a.m., the task force spotted Ty fleeing from his house into a acacia forest in Hamlet 4 and gave chase. After losing sight of him, the officers split up to search. About 30 minutes later, they discovered Lieutenant Canh dead with multiple stab wounds.

The Xuan Loc Commune Police mobilized all available personnel to apprehend Ty. He was taken into custody by noon.

Initial findings indicate Ty ambushed and stabbed Lieutenant Canh.
