On 30/12, Justin Jones, 41 years old and a resident of Carroll County, Georgia, stated that he was suddenly accused of drunk driving in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Christmas Eve 20 years ago.
"I just received a letter in the mail informing me that my driver's license had been suspended. That was shocking", Justin said.
He stated he had never been to New Mexico, never driven through New Mexico. "I haven't even set foot on the ground in that state while transiting flights".
Justin asserted he spent that Christmas at home with family. The two locations (Justin's home and the violation site) are separated by a 21-hour drive.

To resolve the issue, he went to the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) but received no response.
Justin then requested confirmation from a New Mexico state court that he had no criminal record and had never committed any violations in that state. Upon receiving documents proving his innocence, he submitted them to the DDS.
The New Mexico Department of Taxation and Revenue also sent a letter to the DDS confirming that Justin had no issues with his driving record in their state. They further stated that the violation record actually belonged to a different individual with a similar name and birthdate.
However, the DDS still refused to reinstate his license. Consequently, Justin has not been legally permitted to drive for the past two months.
In a statement to the media, the DDS announced it had contacted New Mexico and requested additional documents to correct the error. Only after receiving these documents can the department remove the violation information. Since violation records are transmitted electronically between states, only a digital cancellation can lift the sanction; it cannot be done via paper documents.
