The incident began around 5:30 PM on June 20th when Truong hailed a taxi from the Ninh Thuan bus station in Phan Rang – Thap Cham city to Phuoc Chinh commune in Bac Ai district. The taxi was driven by a woman.

After traveling over 12 km, the taxi entered a deserted forested area in the mountainous Phuoc Trung commune. Truong suddenly attacked the driver and tore her clothes. She fought back, stopped the car, and ran out, screaming for help. Truong fled into the forest when he saw other people approaching.

Ninh Thuan police reviewed camera footage along the route to track the suspect. On June 21st, Truong was spotted in a taxi on the highway heading towards Binh Thuan. Investigators alerted Binh Thuan police to assist in the arrest.

As the taxi carrying Truong reached the Ma Lam intersection on the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet highway and turned onto Highway 28, traffic police signaled the vehicle to stop. Truong jumped out and ran towards a nearby building to hide, but Binh Thuan police quickly apprehended him.
