On 10/2, An Giang Provincial Police announced the temporary detention of To Hoang Du, Truong Van Tien, 47, and Ngo Huu Chuan, 48. They are under investigation for manufacturing and trading counterfeit goods, and for using forged documents from agencies and organizations.
Authorities initially determined that since 2019, this group has introduced hundreds of fake transformers into the market. These were distributed across many southwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, causing damage to businesses and posing potential risks to power system safety and grid security.

Previously, authorities uncovered a large-scale, inter-provincial operation manufacturing and distributing fake THIBIDI-branded transformers, which had been active for several years. The suspects acquired used or damaged transformers, then refurbished them by repainting their casings, rewinding copper wires, and falsifying technical documents, labels, and specification stamps for resale.
On 29/1, the Police Department for Investigating Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes caught Du's group in the act of transporting fake transformers. These were moved from warehouses and production facilities in Tay Ninh province and Can Tho City for distribution in An Giang.

During searches of warehouses, workshops, and sales points, police seized 137 fake THIBIDI-branded transformers. The total value, if they had been genuine, was estimated at over 20 billion VND, along with numerous related documents and electronic data.
An Giang Provincial Police are expanding their investigation.
