Truck driver in 'Trung Luong Expressway pursuit' incident arrested

Luong Van Quoc, after his truck collided with a passenger bus on the Trung Luong Expressway, sped and swerved, endangering road users.

On the afternoon of 13/1, the Dong Thap Provincial Police announced the temporary detention of Quoc (from Vinh Long) for three months on charges of disturbing public order.

This action follows the arrest of bus driver Nguyen Duc Tin, 45, (from Dong Thap) three days prior for the same offense.

The incident occurred on 7/1 when Luong Van Quoc was driving a truck on the TP HCM - Trung Luong Expressway, heading towards the Mekong Delta (Mien Tay). At that time, a passenger bus driven by Tin abruptly changed lanes directly in front of the truck, creating a dangerous situation.

As they were about to exit the expressway, Quoc accelerated to confront Tin, resulting in a collision that broke the bus's rearview mirror. Quoc then sped away, entering the emergency lane to leave the expressway.

Bus driver Tin pursued the truck for several kilometers on the access road. During the pursuit, Tin repeatedly drove out of his lane, failed to maintain a safe distance, swerved, changed lanes, and made multiple U-turns at the expressway access road intersection with Tinh 878.

Throughout the chase, 25 passengers on the bus were terrified and screamed. Despite their pleas and threats to call the police and the bus company's hotline, Tin continued the pursuit.

Tin eventually stopped the bus after driving a few more kilometers. Many passengers disembarked in the middle of the road, calling relatives to pick them up.

Passengers on the bus recorded the incident and posted the video on social media.
