Ngo Xuan Phat, 34, from Phu Lac commune, has been criminally detained by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Police Investigation Agency. He is under investigation for violating road traffic regulations.
The incident occurred around 7:40 on 26/5. Phat was driving a truck on National Highway 3, heading towards National Highway 37, within Trung 2 hamlet, Diem Thuy commune. At the intersection with the 47-meter road, Phat reportedly failed to observe and made an unsafe turn, colliding with a couple on a motorbike.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of the couple, both 68 years old, from Phu Binh commune. Both the truck and motorbike sustained damage.

Police stated that the truck driver's negligence during the turn not only claimed the lives of two individuals but also led to his own legal predicament.
To prevent similar incidents, police urge large truck drivers to: reduce speed when navigating intersections, changing directions, or entering curves; meticulously check rearview mirrors; manage "blind spots"; and avoid sudden turns until safety is ensured.
Police also advised motorcyclists to: maintain a safe distance from large trucks, containers, trailers, and other heavy-duty vehicles, avoiding riding parallel or too close to their sides or fronts. When a large vehicle signals a turn, motorcyclists should slow down, yield, and not attempt to squeeze into the turning radius.
