Woman pretends to buy beer, steals 20 cases

Disguised with a face mask and sunglasses, Truong Thi Hong Mai rode an unregistered motorbike to various grocery stores, feigning beer purchases before snatching a total of 20 cases and fleeing.

On 22/7, Cu Lao Dung Commune Police questioned 42-year-old Mai, investigating the robbery and other potential criminal activity.

Previously, residents reported a woman wearing a face mask and sunglasses, riding an unregistered motorbike, had been visiting grocery stores in Cu Lao Dung Commune, pretending to buy beer. Taking advantage of the shop owners' inattention, she would grab several cases of beer and speed away.

During patrols, commune police noticed Mai riding a motorbike carrying 5 cases of beer and, finding her suspicious, brought her to the station for questioning.

At the station, Mai initially confessed to living in Phu Loi Ward and, over the past 10 days, traveling over 20 km to Cu Lao Dung Commune and An Thanh Commune (both in Can Tho City) to commit 4 similar robberies, stealing a total of 20 cases of various beers. However, she has not yet revealed her motive.

Local police are advising residents, especially grocery store owners, to be vigilant and wary of individuals pretending to make purchases in order to steal goods.
