After a few minutes of confusion, Ha realized that many people responding to a fundraising campaign to support the people of Cuba had mistakenly sent money to his account. The program, launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, accepts donations through account number 2022 at MBBank (Military Bank), while Ha's account number is also 2022 but at ABBank (An Binh Bank).
By the morning of 15/8, Ha had received over 3 million VND. He contacted the bank to return the money to those who had made the mistake and said he would provide a full, public statement on social media.
"I've also temporarily locked my bank account so people don't make the same mistake," he said.
From 13/8 to 16/10, the Vietnam Red Cross Society and other units launched a campaign to support the people of Cuba with the theme "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship".
The campaign aims to express the close bond and solidarity of the Vietnamese people with Cuba, and to show gratitude for Cuba's support for Vietnam during difficult times.
Donations can be sent to the Vietnam Red Cross Society, account number 2022, at Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB Bank), with the message "CUBA".
According to the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the campaign to support the Cuban people reached its minimum target of 65 billion VND after 30 hours and continues to grow.
Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 2/12/1960. During the war against the US, Cuba provided significant support to Vietnam, especially in food, medicine, and pharmaceuticals. Vietnam is currently Cuba's second-largest trading partner in Asia and its largest investor in the region.
A memorable milestone in the relationship between the two countries was Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated zone of Quang Tri in 9/1973. At Hill 241, he declared: "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its own blood." This affirmation became a great source of encouragement and spiritual strength for the Vietnamese army and people.
