Kylian Mbappe, 18, originally from Cameroon, currently lives in Paris. He stated that sharing a name with the famous forward of Real Madrid club was purely coincidental, as his parents named him before the renowned player embarked on his professional football career.

"My parents said the name coincidence was random because the French national player and I are 10 years apart in age", Kylian stated.

However, the name has caused him considerable trouble. Speaking to Pluriel on 17/6, Kylian recounted being stopped by a transport officer after forgetting his metro pass. With his phone dead, he could not prove his identity. When he stated his name was Kylian Mbappe, the officer assumed he was joking and threatened to call the police, suspecting he was using a false name. "'Kylian Mbappe is truly my name'", he said.

The 18-year-old also played amateur football for 6 years at clubs in the Seine-et-Marne region. During a match in Seine-Saint-Denis province two years ago, opposing fans constantly taunted him, saying he lacked the skill of the footballer Mbappe. In response, Kylian stated: "'I simply want to play football and find joy in it.'"

Despite this, the name also brings some interesting privileges. Kylian recounted calling to book a table at a Paris restaurant, where the other end of the line went silent for two seconds before confirming. According to the young man, the restaurant staff were unsure if they were speaking with the football star or an ordinary person. Upon his arrival, the restaurant directed him to one of the central tables. "'They treated me like a prince'", the Cameroonian man recounted.

Kylian stated that the name brings both pride and pressure, forcing him to constantly explain that he is not pursuing elite sports. Although these comical and dramatic situations may continue, Kylian affirmed his decision to keep the name his parents gave him.
