Wife offers 'husband rental' deal to mistress

After discovering her husband's infidelity, Khun Kwang proposed an agreement to his mistress to "rent" him for 30,000 baht per month. This unusual arrangement, however, was deemed legally invalid by a lawyer, leading Khun Kwang to file a lawsuit against both her husband and his mistress.

Appearing on the Hone-Krasae television program in early March, 31-year-old Khun Kwang from Bangkok recounted the hidden struggles within her marriage. She married at 21 and has an 8-year-old son. Her 35-year-old husband is a police officer.

The family's life began to fracture in mid-2025 when an unfamiliar woman frequently interacted on her husband's social media page. "I sensed something unusual but didn't suspect infidelity", Khun stated.

In late 2025, her husband frequently came home late, citing work commitments. The situation escalated one night when he returned at 1:00 AM, declaring his readiness to leave all assets and debts to his wife, accepting to depart with nothing.

Khun hired a private investigator for 10,000 baht a day to monitor her husband. On the first day, the detective discovered her husband at his mistress's home in the Ramkhamhaeng area. Caught in the act, the husband claimed his mistress threatened suicide if they broke up and pressured Khun to confront her directly.

During the confrontation, the other woman admitted knowing her lover was married. "But when I asked if she was willing to take on shared debts if we divorced, she immediately refused", the wife recounted.

Just when it seemed the storm had passed and her husband agreed to return, he soon confessed he "still missed his mistress." Khun then proposed an unusual agreement: If they wanted to live together, her husband and his mistress would have to pay her 30,000 baht per month as "husband rental" fees. Ironically, the mistress immediately agreed, while the husband vehemently refused.

From a legal perspective, lawyer Pat Anusorn Asurapong, a program guest, affirmed that this "husband rental" contract is entirely invalid. It violates moral standards and the principle of monogamy in Thailand. Any agreement allowing a married person to maintain an extramarital affair for money is not legally recognized.

In Thailand, adultery is a civil offense. According to Article 1523 of the Civil and Commercial Code, a legal spouse has the right to sue their partner and the mistress, seeking compensation for emotional distress and damage to honor. This is considered the strongest legal tool to protect marital fidelity. The unfaithful party also risks losing their right to alimony after divorce.

Following legal advice, Khun Kwang filed a lawsuit against her husband and his mistress.
