The unexpected birth occurred on the night of 21/5 while Green and her husband, Michael Green, were vacationing in Toronto, Canada with their 6-year-old daughter. Green awoke with severe abdominal pain and rushed to the bathroom. Her body took over, and after two pushes, she delivered a baby. "I scooped her up out of the toilet, completely baffled by what had just happened," Green said.
Michael Green was startled awake by the sound of a baby crying and immediately called 911. He described both of them as "completely shocked," not understanding what had happened until paramedics confirmed they had a healthy baby girl.

According to medical professionals, Green experienced a cryptic pregnancy, a rare phenomenon where a woman is unaware of being pregnant. Throughout her pregnancy, she continued to have regular periods, experienced no morning sickness, didn't show a noticeable baby bump, and maintained her usual activities.
Having experienced several miscarriages in the past, Green believed she was entering perimenopause. She noted that her previous pregnancies had resulted in a very prominent bump.
Despite the initial shock, the family is overjoyed with their unexpected new addition. They named the baby girl Olivia, after one of the nurses who cared for them.

Because Olivia was born in the hotel but the placenta was delivered at the hospital, authorities were uncertain whether to register the birth as a "home birth" or a "hospital birth." The complicated paperwork resulted in the family being stuck in Canada for over a month.
The extended stay added approximately 12,000 USD to their trip expenses. The family hopes their travel insurance will cover the additional costs.
"Everything feels so complete now. It's like she's always been meant to be here," Green said.
