Young people leverage reward programs when ordering food

After using a reward program for ordering food through an app, Thien Nhan (25, Ho Chi Minh City) saved over 130,000 VND and enjoyed several free lunches.

In the fast-paced urban lifestyle, speed and convenience are increasingly important for many young people when choosing everyday services. Ride-hailing, food delivery, and courier apps have become common consumer habits. For 25-year-old Thien Nhan, a production manager in Ho Chi Minh City, "living on" food delivery apps has become the norm. His busy schedule rarely allows for fixed meal times, often requiring him to grab a quick bite in the editing room amidst the rendering sounds and deadline pressure.

Despite frequently using these platforms, Nhan previously paid little attention to the accompanying benefits, such as reward programs. "Before, I only focused on restaurant proximity, menu variety, good reviews, and available promotions. I mostly ignored accumulating points, thinking they weren't worth much," Nhan said.

One day, while ordering lunch with less than 50,000 VND in his e-wallet, Nhan considered removing his favorite drink from the order. A colleague suggested using reward points. "The app automatically suggested the equivalent points for redemption. My GrabFood order was around 58,000 VND, and the app suggested redeeming about 1,740 points, resulting in a free order," Nhan shared.

Since then, Nhan has become more mindful of accumulating points. He explored Grab's program, the app he uses for daily food orders. Unlike many promotions limited to specific stores or time frames, reward points offer flexibility.

"My colleagues also taught me how to earn points faster. For example, ordering breakfast between 7-9 a.m. or choosing dishes from the 'Special Restaurant Selection' collection adds 50 points. As a team leader, placing group orders grants 200 points," Nhan explained.

Like Nhan, many young people prioritize accumulating points from these apps for their practical benefits. It doesn't take much time but helps save money, sometimes even earning free meals or drinks.

"Occasionally, I redeem points for a meal or a cup of coffee; it feels like receiving a gift from the vendor," Nhan said.

GrabRewards is Grab's loyalty program, enhancing user benefits with every Grab service use. Points can be earned in several ways:

: Leading a "Group Order" on GrabFood: +200 points

: Ordering breakfast between 7-9 a.m.: +50 points

: Choosing dishes from the "Special Restaurant Selection" collection: +50 points

GrabUnlimited members accumulate points faster, earning one point for every 7,000 VND spent. Points can be used for direct discounts on GrabFood orders, redeemed for benefits on other services like transportation, delivery, grocery shopping, or exchanged for vouchers from various food, entertainment, and travel brands.

Detailed program information and terms are available on Grab's website.
