Speaking harshly on Sky Sports, Carragher declared, "This is a disaster for Liverpool's efforts to secure a Champions League spot. They truly made a struggling Tottenham look like a formidable team in the eyes of viewers. Liverpool's defense played terribly. I said throughout the half that Liverpool were playing like they were sleepwalking. They kept putting themselves in difficult situations."
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Dominik Szoboszlai, only for Richarlison to equalize in the 90th minute. The Brazilian forward's goal secured one crucial point for Tottenham in their fight against relegation and dealt a blow to Arne Slot's side's ambitions of finishing in the top 4 for a Champions League berth.

Statistics reveal that Liverpool have conceded 8 goals from the 90th minute onwards in the 2025-2026 Premier League, their highest tally in a single season. Additionally, Liverpool have dropped 7 points from winning positions at Anfield, their worst record since the 2016-2017 season.
Carragher added, "I don't mean to offend Tottenham, but they have been the worst team in the league for about two months. This is exactly the opponent you would want to face at home, especially with the motivation from competitors' results this weekend. Yet, Liverpool played like that. But in reality, they have been this bad all season."
The former England defender also posed questions to his old club, such as whether the fault lies with the coach or the squad's quality, and if a new coach could revive the team's energy. Carragher believes the most crucial answer lies in the summer 2025 transfer window.
"I believe the problem lies with last summer's transfer window, in the profiles of the players brought in. Too many players only want to play when they have the ball at their feet. They are not willing to commit themselves or make it difficult for opponents. That's why beating Liverpool right now is so easy," Carragher asserted.
After the match, Szoboszlai frankly admitted that Liverpool should be content with a Conference League spot next season if they continue to perform as they did against Tottenham. "We need to wake up. If we keep playing in this daze, next season we should feel lucky to play in the Conference League," the Hungarian midfielder told Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, coach Slot, despite trying to highlight positive aspects, lamented his players' poor finishing. "Every time this outcome happens, it feels like a heavy punch. The match against Wolves was similar, and now it has repeated," he said after the game. "Once again, in the final minute, we had a chance to score but failed to capitalize, and then had to leave the field with a disappointing result."
The 47-year-old manager further analyzed the late goals Liverpool have conceded from the 90th minute onwards recently. "The way we concede in the final minutes is not always the same. You cannot compare a deflected shot against Wolves with today's goal, or Fulham's wonder strike from 30 m. But the common thread is that we consistently drop points due to goals conceded in injury time or the very last minute," Slot continued.

In the Premier League this season, Liverpool have scored 49 goals from an expected goals (xG) tally of 50,01. This means their performance nearly perfectly matches their xG (10 other teams have a worse performance). However, in the match against Tottenham specifically, they recorded an xG of 1,67 but only scored one goal.
