At Rajamangala Stadium on the afternoon of 15/12, Vietnam faced a challenging match against the Philippines. The Philippines had emerged as a surprise team of SEA Games 33, having defeated defending champions Indonesia to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1991.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams adopting a cautious approach, resulting in few clear chances. In the second half, the Philippines intensified their attack, putting pressure on Vietnam's defense. However, coach Kim Sang-sik's timely tactical adjustments proved decisive in the closing minutes. Notably, two substitutes he introduced scored crucial goals.
In the 85th minute, Van Thuan scored with a powerful header into the near corner, following a precise cross from the left wing. Just 4 minutes later, Thanh Nhan secured the victory with a free-kick from the left side.
This victory is a well-deserved reward for the dedicated efforts of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. The squad displayed unwavering resilience and a strong fighting spirit, particularly during critical moments.
Vietnam will face the winner of the other semi-final between Thailand and Malaysia in the final, scheduled for 18/12.
