Despite having won all 10 of their previous encounters, Djokovic faced a tough challenge against Fritz at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Cheered on by the home crowd, Fritz went toe-to-toe with the veteran. However, missed opportunities kept the American trailing before he ultimately fell in the 4th set.
Djokovic saved his first nine break points to take a 6-3, 5-3 lead. Fritz finally converted his first break point late in the second set to level at 5-5. But the world number 4 then faltered in the next game, double-faulting on break point.

After winning the first two sets 6-3, 7-5, Djokovic appeared to relax in the third. Fritz's efforts earned him the only break of the set, keeping him in the match. He continued to fight hard in the 4th set before his unfortunate downfall.
Trailing 4-5, Fritz saved two break points in the crucial game. He then squandered a game point, giving Djokovic another advantage. On his third match point, Djokovic sealed the victory as Fritz double-faulted, handing the Serb the set 6-4.
"I was fortunate to save many break points in the second set," Djokovic said after the match, having saved 11 of 13 break points overall. "I thought he played better than me for most of the second and third sets. These kinds of matches are decided by a few key points."
Fritz had five break points while down 3-5 in the first set but couldn't convert any. He missed further opportunities at critical moments, his efforts ultimately proving futile. "Fritz didn't deserve to lose on a double fault," Djokovic added. "I didn't overpower him today. He played aggressively, covering the court well, making him a tough opponent. But ultimately, I won, and I'm proud of that."
This is only the seventh time Djokovic has reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slams in a single year. He will face Carlos Alcaraz in a highly anticipated semifinal clash. Alcaraz comfortably defeated Jiri Lehecka in straight sets in an earlier quarterfinal match.
