In the 41st minute, Le Nguyen Hoang cleared the ball on the left flank. Do Hung Dung jumped to challenge, but his foot landed with the sole of his boot directly on the right thigh of the SLNA player. Referee Ngo Duy Lan initially showed a yellow card, then changed it to a red after three minutes of consulting VAR and reviewing the video. The Hanoi FC captain pleaded his case, describing it as an unintentional act, but the decision stood.
This marks Do Hung Dung's first red card since becoming a professional player. The midfielder, born in 1993, was sent off after playing 66 matches for the national and U23 teams, along with over 270 club matches for Hanoi FC and Hanoi (later Saigon FC, which has since dissolved).

Do Hung Dung's foul on Le Nguyen Hoang, leading to a red card during Hanoi FC's 3-1 victory over SLNA in round 12 of V-League 2025-2026, at Vinh Stadium in Nghe An on 31/1.
Do Hung Dung is known as a hardworking, physically robust player, not malicious, and rarely receives cards. Prior to today's red card, Do Hung Dung had only received 8 yellow cards.
Since his V-League debut in 2016, Hung Dung has consistently played over 76% of matches each season for Hanoi FC, thanks to his enduring physical stamina. However, his career was interrupted and affected by a leg fracture injury in 3/2021. From 1/2022, Do Hung Dung was selected as captain of the Vietnam national team, replacing Que Ngoc Hai. At Hanoi FC, he also serves as vice-captain, second only to Nguyen Van Quyet.
At Vinh Stadium in Nghe An, before receiving the red card, Do Hung Dung made his mark by scoring to make it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Brazilian-born midfielder Do Hoang Hen delivered a through ball, allowing Hung Dung to face goalkeeper Cao Van Binh and score with a skillful finish into the left corner. This was the 32-year-old midfielder's first goal in the V-League this season.
Hanoi FC returned to action after a break of nearly three months, which allowed the national team to gather and compete in SEA Games 33 and the U23 Asia 2026. The team's most recent match was a 1-1 draw against Nam Dinh in round 11 of the V-League on 10/11/2025.
However, coach Harry Kewell's team delivered a dominant performance against hosts SLNA. Before Hung Dung's goal, the team opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a decisive strike from Nguyen Hai Long inside the penalty area. Subsequently, a tight defensive system was established, frustrating the hosts. Hanoi even scored a third goal in the 62nd minute through Daniel Passira following a precise counter-attack.
It wasn't until the 89th minute that SLNA managed a consolation goal. Reon Moore shot inside the penalty area, the ball hitting the crossbar and bouncing down. Adriel attempted to clear the ball but couldn't prevent Tran Manh Quynh from rushing in to head it into an empty net.
The 3-1 victory temporarily lifted Hanoi to 5th place with 18 points, nine points behind league leaders Ninh Binh, having played one more match. SLNA sits in 10th place with 10 points, three points ahead of bottom-placed Da Nang, also having played one more match.
In a simultaneous match at Lach Tray Stadium, Lucao Vinicius's brace helped The Cong defeat Hai Phong 2-1. The Cong took third place from Hai Phong, with 22 points, two points ahead of their rivals.
