Hat-trick helps Barca win eight-goal La Liga match

Forward Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick in the first 40 minutes, leading Barca to a 5-3 comeback victory over Betis in La Liga's 15th round, extending their lead over Real to four points.

The thrilling chase for goals at La Cartuja stadium began in the 6th minute. Jules Kounde was slow to advance, allowing Antony to beat the offside trap and gain possession inside the six-yard box. The Brazilian forward controlled the ball with one touch before firing it into the roof of the net, opening the scoring for the hosts.

In the 11th minute, Kounde atoned for his error by breaking down the right flank and delivering a cross into the penalty area for Ferran Torres to tap in, leveling the score. Two minutes later, another attack down the right wing saw Roony Bardghji set up the Spanish forward, who launched himself to strike the ball and complete his brace.

Bardghji, 20 years old, was recruited by Barca for under 3 million USD in the summer of 2025. After assisting Torres, the Swedish midfielder added his name to the scoresheet with a powerful shot into the near corner in the 31st minute, increasing the score to 3-1.

Torres completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute with a shot from outside the box that deflected off a defender and into the net. Torres has now scored seven goals in 11 encounters against Real Betis in La Liga, his best record against any opponent in the league. The Spanish forward has also contributed to nine goals in his last five matches against Betis in La Liga, with seven goals and two assists.

Torres has scored two hat-tricks in La Liga across 193 appearances for Valencia and Barcelona. Both were achieved at Real Betis's home ground, with the first in 1/2024 and the most recent yesterday.

At the start of the second half, Marcus Rashford's shot struck a Betis player's hand inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty. From the spot, Lamine Yamal calmly slotted the ball into the left corner, opposite to goalkeeper Alvaro Valles's dive.

Subsequent efforts from the home side only yielded two goals from Diego Llorente and Cucho Hernandez, but they were unable to secure any points at La Cartuja stadium.

After the match, Torres expressed satisfaction with his hat-trick, which brought his La Liga tally to 11 goals this season, trailing only Kylian Mbappe (16) in the top scorer list. However, he emphasized that personal achievements are not his primary focus.

"It's not every day you score a hat-trick, but 11 goals doesn't tell the whole story," Torres said. "I always believe I'm capable of starting for Barca, strong enough to compete for a spot, and I want to score even more goals. My job is to keep giving the coach a headache when choosing the lineup."

With their comeback victory over Betis, Barca solidified their top position in La Liga with 40 points, four points ahead of Real, who will face Celta today. In the next round on 13/12, Barca will return home to host Osasuna.
