Anfield once again witnessed a comeback against Atletico Madrid. After Marcos Llorente scored in the 17th minute, Liverpool needed only 23 minutes to equalize and then took the lead early in the second half, securing three points on Andoni Iraola's Champions League coaching debut.

Despite playing away, Atletico quickly demonstrated the resilience of a team that has participated in the Champions League for 14 consecutive seasons under Diego Simeone. In the 17th minute, Julian Alvarez received the ball on the left and passed it through the middle to Llorente, who was making a run. The Spanish midfielder bypassed Milos Kerkez before chipping the ball over Alisson, opening the scoring for the visitors.
