Lionel Messi has been nominated for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, marking his return to the prestigious 30-man shortlist after a two-year hiatus. The nominations were unveiled by France Football magazine, which organizes the annual award.
Among the initial 22 players announced for the award are: William Pacho, Julian Quinones, Joao Neves, Michael Olise, Nuno Mendes, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Kylian Mbappe, Sadio Mane, Marquinhos, Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia, Lamine Yamal, Achraf Hakimi, Harry Kane, Gabriel, Erling Haaland, Luis Diaz, Bruno Fernandes, Marc Cucurella, Ousmane Dembele, Jude Bellingham, and Pau Cubarsi. The full list of 30 nominees is expected to be completed soon.
