"They defended like an under-10s team. I was even annoyed, despite not being a Man City fan. I can't understand what they were thinking," commented former West Ham and Chelsea player Scott Minto on talkSPORT.
Commentator Joe Shennan also called it "an embarrassing night for Man City and a bitter lesson for Pep Guardiola".

At Aspmyra Stadium on the evening of 20/1, Man City's defense repeatedly made errors, allowing Bodo/Glimt to score three consecutive goals. The result could have been worse, as Jens Hauge hit the crossbar and Kasper Hogh had a late goal disallowed. Man City's only highlight was Rayan Cherki's goal from outside the box.
Bodo/Glimt became the first Norwegian team to defeat one English club in a European competition since Viking beat Chelsea 4-2 in the UEFA Cup in 10/2002. Between Chelsea's and Man City's defeats, English representatives had gone 18 consecutive matches unbeaten against Norwegian clubs (14 wins, 4 draws).
Bodo/Glimt is also the sixth team in history to lead Man City by three goals in a Champions League match, following Bayern Munich (10/2013), Barca (10/2016), Liverpool (4/2018), Sporting CP (11/2024), and Real Madrid (2/2025).
Man City entered the match aiming to consolidate their position among the top eight teams. However, yesterday's defeat in Norway puts the English side at risk of dropping to 15th place, a position that requires two play-off rounds to qualify for the Champions League round of 16.
Former Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood stated this defeat would directly impact Man City's confidence, even though they still have a good chance of progressing. "Man City are still in a good position in the Champions League, but they've had several opportunities to settle things early and rotate the squad," Sherwood told Sky Sports.
The former English coach also praised Bodo/Glimt's performance. "It was a fantastic performance and possibly the best match in their history," he said.

Sherwood specifically criticized Rodri's red card in the 62nd minute, as the Spanish midfielder received two yellow cards within just 53 seconds. "It's unbelievable. Rodri is an experienced player Man City cannot do without," he added. "But he played at an average level, like many other players."
The 56-year-old former coach also questioned the decision to let Rodri play on an artificial pitch despite just returning from a ligament injury. However, he also believed Rodri put himself in a difficult situation. "Once he had one yellow card, he knew that pulling an opponent would lead to a second yellow," Sherwood commented. "It was a poor decision from an experienced player and left Man City with no chance to turn the game around."
On 24/1, Man City will return home to face Wolves in round 23 of the Premier League. Four days later, Guardiola's team will host Galatasaray in the final round of the Champions League group stage.
