The deadlock broke in the 24th minute with a spectacular goal. From Diogo Dalot's throw-in, forward Nick Woltemade's indecisive header clearance allowed Dorgu to rush in and strike a one-touch volley from about 15 meters, sending the ball into the bottom corner, past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Dorgu's first goal for Man Utd ignited the stadium. Beyond scoring, Dorgu also created several opportunities for Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, and made a crucial sliding tackle to stop Lewis Hall. Following this defensive action, Casemiro praised Dorgu, bringing a smile to his face.
The first half at Old Trafford began with a high tempo and an open game. Man Utd surprised many by deploying a rare four-defender system under coach Ruben Amorim. Luke Shaw played on the left flank, Diogo Dalot on the right, while Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven partnered at center-back. This setup allowed Dorgu to push forward into a right midfield role.
In the third minute, Casemiro missed an early chance to score, heading over from close range after a corner from Mason Mount. Newcastle then gradually took control, at times holding over 60% possession and consistently pressing with crosses from both wings. In the 13th minute, Bruno Guimaraes' close-range header forced a save from goalkeeper Senne Lammens before Casemiro cleared the danger.
Despite a strong first-half performance, Man Utd faced significant pressure in the second half after Mount was replaced by 18-year-old midfielder Jack Fletcher, son of former player Darren Fletcher. Coach Amorim also reverted to his familiar five-defender system, instructing the team to "park the bus" in front of their goal.
Nevertheless, the "Red Devils" still found good opportunities from Newcastle's errors. Forward Benjamin Sesko broke through on goal, but his shot struck the crossbar. Minutes later, Man Utd's crossbar rattled from a powerful strike by defender Lewis Hall.
