Man Utd sells Garnacho to Chelsea

Man Utd agreed to sell forward Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for 51 million USD.

According to ESPN, the deal also includes a clause where Man Utd will receive 10% of the transfer fee if Chelsea sells Garnacho to another club.

Chelsea's initial offer was only 32 million USD, but Man Utd persuaded them to increase it to 51 million USD. However, this figure is still lower than the 64 million USD valuation Man Utd had hoped for.

Garnacho will fly to London today for a medical examination before signing a contract that runs until 2032. The Argentinian forward could make his debut for Chelsea fans in their match against Fulham at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the Premier League on August 30th.

Garnacho is leaving Old Trafford due to a conflict with manager Ruben Amorim. After the Europa League final loss to Tottenham, the 21-year-old winger publicly criticized Amorim for being benched in favor of Mason Mount.

Born on 1/7/2004 in Madrid, Spain to an Argentinian mother, Garnacho developed in Atletico Madrid's academy before joining Man Utd's youth team in 2020. In 2022, his two goals in the final against Nottingham Forest secured Man Utd's first FA Youth Cup since 2011, and he earned the Young Player of the Year award.

Starting in the 2022-2023 season, Garnacho switched his jersey number from 75 to 49 and became a key player for the team. In total, the Argentinian forward scored 26 goals in 144 appearances for Man Utd's first team, winning one FA Cup and one League Cup, both under manager Erik ten Hag.

Conversely, Chelsea agreed to sell Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan for 49 million USD. The 27-year-old Nkunku is no longer part of manager Enzo Maresca's plans.

After joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig for 70 million USD in the summer of 2023, the French forward suffered repeated serious injuries and made only 11 Premier League appearances in his first season. Last season, he continued to struggle for a starting spot, mainly featuring in cup matches and the Europa Conference League. The move to Serie A offers Nkunku a chance to revive his career after two lackluster years at Stamford Bridge.

In addition to these two deals, Chelsea is also interested in Xavi Simons. However, the Blues are unwilling to meet RB Leipzig's asking price of 82 million USD. Tottenham is currently believed to be leading the race to sign the Dutch midfielder.
