The Deportivo LSM project originated from a sports complex in Ciudad de la Costa, Uruguay, which Suarez established in 2018. This 8 ha complex includes an artificial turf pitch with a capacity for 1,400 spectators, a 7-a-side pitch for 620 spectators, three natural grass pitches, a gym, and a swimming pool. Initially, the project focused on providing children and teenagers a solid platform for athletic and personal development.
In 5/2025, building on the complex, Suarez and Messi joined forces to establish Deportivo LSM. The "LSM" initials represent the names of the two players. The team's technical director is Alvaro Recoba, a former star for Inter Milan and the Uruguay national team. Winning the fourth division championship and securing promotion to the third division in their inaugural season marks a successful start for Deportivo LSM.
Suarez and Messi were close teammates during their time at Barca from 2014-2020. They reunited at Inter Miami at the start of 2024. In the MLS Cup Eastern Conference semi-final on the evening of 23/11, Messi scored one goal and provided a hat-trick of assists, helping Inter Miami defeat host FC Cincinnati 4-0. Suarez entered the game as a substitute.
Inter Miami will face New York City FC in the Eastern Conference final on 29/11. A victory would send them to the MLS Cup final.
