Fenerbahce announced the termination of their contract with 62-year-old coach Jose Mourinho this afternoon, 29/8.

According to the Turkish club's announcement on their X account on 29/8, the two parties parted ways after Fenerbahce lost to Benfica and missed out on a Champions League group stage spot. "We thank Mourinho for his efforts and wish him success in his future career," the statement read.

Turkish media suggest that the dismissal wasn't solely due to on-field results. Some Fenerbahce officials accused Mourinho of distorting facts in public statements, escalating internal tensions.

Mourinho joined Fenerbahce for the 2024-2025 season, tasked with restoring the club's competitive edge in Europe. However, a rocky start coupled with the defeat against Benfica led the management to dismiss the Portuguese coach after just over a year.

At 62, Mourinho faces an uncertain future. After leaving Roma in 2024, he quickly accepted the Fenerbahce offer, but his Turkish adventure ended in disappointment.
