Nine Asian teams have secured their spots in the U17 World Cup 2026, with Vietnam making a historic first appearance. This marks Vietnam as the only Southeast Asian nation to qualify for the prestigious tournament.
The U17 Asian Championship 2026 served as the qualifier, featuring 16 teams divided into 4 groups. The top two teams from each group, along with host nation Qatar, earned their tickets to the World Cup later this year. The four group winners were Saudi Arabia (Group A), Japan (Group B), Vietnam (Group C), and Uzbekistan (Group D). The four runners-up were Tajikistan (Group A), China (Group B), South Korea (Group C), and Australia (Group D).
Vietnam's qualification is a significant milestone, making it the 20th team from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to participate in the U17 World Cup's history. Previously, Vietnam has competed in the men's Futsal World Cup (2016, 2021), the men's U20 World Cup 2017, and the Women's World Cup 2023.
