Ronaldo misses penalty and suffers injury in Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo experienced a bittersweet day as Al Nassr defeated Al Fayha 3-1 in round 24 of the Saudi Pro League.

Al Nassr started confidently while playing away at Al Fayha on the evening of 28/2. In the 8th minute, the referee awarded Al Nassr a penalty after a collision between Mohamed Simakan and Al Fayha's Mikel Villanueva. However, Ronaldo shot wide of the left post, missing the opportunity to open the scoring.

This marked the third time the 41-year-old superstar had missed a penalty since the start of the 2025-2026 season, playing for both Al Nassr and the Portugal national team. He also missed the chance to increase his career goal tally to 966.

Al Nassr then faced difficulties as the momentum shifted at the end of the first half. In the 45+2 minute, Abdulelah Al Amri scored an own goal, giving Al Fayha the lead.

After halftime, the pressure to find an equalizer led to Al Nassr struggling. They had to wait until the 72nd minute to level the score when Kingsley Coman passed to Sadio Mane, who tapped the ball into an empty net.

Following the equalizer, the away team continued to press and found the necessary luck. In the 80th minute, Joao Felix's powerful shot hit the woodwork, rebounded off goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera, and then flew into the net to make the score 2-1. One minute later, Ronaldo felt hamstring pain and left the field.

In the 85th minute, Al Nassr scored their third goal. Abdullah Al-Hamdan combined with Felix with a one-touch pass, then confidently finished to seal the 3-1 victory.

This 10th consecutive win in the Saudi Pro League helped Al Nassr reclaim the top position. Ronaldo and his teammates currently have 61 points after 24 rounds, two points ahead of Al Ahli and three points ahead of Al Hilal. The league will conclude after six more rounds.
