Following the match on the evening of 18/8, Hudson admitted Thailand's performance was not up to par. However, the English coach emphasized the need to consider the circumstances the team faced, rather than solely judging them by the results and playstyle of the two semi-final matches.

“First and foremost, I am proud the players achieved our goal of reaching the final," he stated. "This squad combines young talents with experienced veterans, and I am proud of everyone. However, the match result disappointed me. I believe we could have performed better, especially given the clear opportunities we had to equalize."

Thailand's coach acknowledged understanding the criticism from fans regarding the team's performance. “I understand it is normal to ask questions," the 45-year-old coach continued. "During the training camp, people also said this squad faced significant criticism, both about the players and the belief we wouldn't go far. But we have reached the final, and that is the answer," he asserted.

Thailand defeated Singapore 3-1 in the first leg at Jalan Besar on the evening of 15/8. In the second leg, Hudson made six changes to the starting lineup, yet Singapore still posed significant challenges. Haris Stewart opened the scoring for Singapore in the 45th minute. Thailand equalized through a penalty from Khlakorn Khamyok in the 62nd minute, but conceded just three minutes later from an own goal by Pansa Hemviboon.

In the remaining minutes, Singapore could not score again to reverse the situation. Thailand lost the second leg, but advanced with an aggregate score of 4-3.

Addressing questions about the team's playstyle, Hudson stated the biggest issue was the schedule. Thailand had to play two semi-final matches just three days apart, in addition to traveling between Singapore and Bangkok. He also mentioned the team's less-than-optimal performance was due to many new players, while Singapore had performed well in the group stage, drawing with both Vietnam and Indonesia.

According to the 45-year-old coach, the players' physical condition prevented Thailand from fully executing their tactical intentions. He noted that the ASEAN Cup 2026 takes place during the pre-season, with many players having only trained with their clubs for a few days before joining the national team. "This is when players need to build their fitness. Therefore, it is very difficult to produce the football we desire," Hudson explained.

Thailand currently holds an advantage in preparation time for the final. The team will have one additional rest day compared to their opponent, either Vietnam or Malaysia. The first leg is scheduled for 22/8 and the second leg for 26/8. Thailand's coach considers this a crucial difference.

“In the first half, the players were fatigued, and we had to make several substitutions due to cramps. However, we still have enough time to prepare for the final. I am not concerned about the preparation process from now on," Hudson stated, adding that Singapore under coach Gavin Lee has changed significantly, is moving in the right direction, and promises to be even stronger in the future.

Lee also expressed pride despite Singapore's inability to reach the final. The 35-year-old coach believed the 2-1 victory on Thai soil was a fitting reward for the spirit of his players and fans.

Thailand will await the result of the semi-final second leg between Vietnam and Malaysia to determine their final opponent. Vietnam currently holds an advantage after defeating Malaysia 2-0 in the first leg in Kuala Lumpur.
