Coach Thawatchai expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming final, viewing it as a definitive opportunity. "It's good to meet Vietnam in the final", Thawatchai said. "Previously, I also thought we would meet Vietnam in the final, and it has actually happened. I still regret not facing them in this year's under-23 Southeast Asian Championship final, as we were eliminated in the semi-finals. This time, the two teams finally meet. This is an opportunity for us to prove that Thailand is Southeast Asia's number one".

Providing context, Thawatchai reflected on the under-23 Southeast Asian Championship in Indonesia in July. Thailand lost to the host nation in a penalty shootout in the semi-finals, while Vietnam secured their third consecutive title by defeating Indonesia 1-0 in the final. Thawatchai attributed Thailand's performance in that tournament to it occurring before the Thai League season began, suggesting the team was not in optimal physical condition. He added that for SEA Games 33, Thailand has prepared more thoroughly, but acknowledged there is still room for improvement.
Thailand advanced to the SEA Games 33 final after a 1-0 victory over Malaysia in the semi-finals. Coach Thawatchai was not surprised by the minimal winning margin, even though his team played with a man advantage from the 16th minute following Aiman Yusuf's red card. He emphasized that Malaysia possesses strength, speed, and determination, asserting that no team in this edition of men's football is weak.
The 51-year-old coach confirmed that Thailand would field their strongest lineup for the final, scheduled for 19:30 on 18/12. The host nation's most notable player is midfielder number 5, Seksan Ratree. At just 22 years old, Ratree is already a key player for the national team, a distinction his teammates have yet to achieve. Thawatchai also extended his gratitude to Nualphan Lamsan, President of the Football Association of Thailand, for a 1 million baht (approximately 32,000 USD) bonus.
Historically, Thailand has won four men's football SEA Games finals against Vietnam. However, Vietnam claimed a 1-0 victory in their most recent clash, the SEA Games 31 final at My Dinh Stadium. This time, the two rivals will meet again at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
